The world, as it is known today, has a lot of Portuguese in it. Their ability – through hard-fought dangers and wars, to pass beyond Taprobana – led us to encounter new worlds. PT281+ takes much of its inspiration as a test design from the Portuguese discoveries. Like Pedro Álvares Cabral, we will set off from Belmonte, his home town, in search of adventure and overcoming. The principles of the Portugal 281+ Ultramarathon Portugal project are based on courage, the spirit of conquest, discovery, and innovation, and the ability to overcome.

The influences

Badwater and BR135 are the inspirations and leverage for an event in Beira Baixa, a sparsely populated territory, but with a high value in natural, human, and historical heritage. A territory where temperatures easily reach 44 degrees, and where humidity rates can be below 20% at some times of the day.
